International Internships

ASCEND’s international internships are wonderful experiences for interns to dive head first into the world of international development. Internships are challenging both physically and mentally. Interns are given the opportunity to work in many aspects of international development. Interns who have returned tell us that they love working with the villagers living in the communities where they work. They also talk about the deep love they have for the local staff and they can’t believe how much they learned about what it takes to keep projects running—everything from fundraising, to program evaluation, to teaching the local staff how to improve their typing skills.

ASCEND internships are scheduled for 2 to 18 months. Those who are willing to commit to at least 4 months of service can have a large portion of their expenses covered through a program that offers scholarships to qualified students. For all interns and fellows, individual expertise and interests will be utilized and taken into account. This will allow the experience to be tailored and mutually beneficial for the participant and the community.

Students, professionals on sabbatical or retired professionals from a variety of backgrounds are needed. Areas of emphasis include but are not limited to the following: Education, English, Spanish, Sociology and Social Work, Anthropology, Political Science, Communications, Computer Sciences, Geography; Business, Accounting, Economics and related fields; Health, including various medical and dental backgrounds; Engineering, Architecture, Construction and related fields.
