ASCEND, A Humanitarian Alliance

Our Organization

ASCEND is a private, non-profit organization, tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. The Alliance operates under the governance of a volunteer board of directors, comprised of successful business professionals, experienced humanitarians and community leaders. We have a strong, local group of donors, partners, volunteers, interns and staff members who contribute their time, resources and skills to further our goals. ASCEND is a unique organization of caring people who make a difference at home and around the world by offering the tools and resources for life-changing programs in education, enterprise, health and simple technology. We strive to accomplish our mission through our Sustainable Development Programs which transcend political, cultural, and language barriers.

Our Mission

In order to achieve our mission to Empower those in need to save their children and ASCEND out of poverty, we work with those in need as partners, educating and empowering communities in need to achieve sustainability and end the cycle of poverty. The members of the communities in which we serve have benefited from technology and enterprise training, small business development, medical and dental services and the building of schools. In addition, communities have been able to produce clean water systems, enhanced gardening and food storage systems, and sanitary latrines and community bathrooms. Our programs continue to expand as each community puts forth their own efforts toward continued success and sustainability.

Who we serve

Our services and programs are executed in various areas of Africa and Latin America, with local full time offices in Ethiopia, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador. Affiliates work in DR Congo, Cape Verde, Ghana, Mozambique, and Sudan. With Headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, our administration, Board of Directors volunteers and interns work in partnership with members of impoverished communities abroad toward a shared goal. Communities in which ASCEND provides assistance show a need for training in the areas of education, enterprise, health and simple technology. The members of these communities must ensure a continued involvement in maintaining the projects that ASCEND helps to initiate, eventually achieving sustainability and ASCENDing out of poverty.
